Sorry for the 'makes no sense at all' posting of the conferences, I was hoping that they would be posted by conference in the translation between computers.

Here's the link to the proposed conferences, I doubt there will be any changes in the triangle area teams with any new changes of conference alignment.

This is a first draft but I expect few if any changes with this draft. Conferences are much smaller this year and reflect for the most part their conference affiliation in other sports.
Boys' side increased by 6 teams to 106, new teams at Union Pines, Corinth Holders, Queen's Grant and Pine Lake Prep in the Charlotte area, Parkwood just east of Charlotte, Parkland in W-S; girls' side increased to 80 with Fuquay, Garner, Davie Co., W-S Atkins, Mooresville and Parkwood adding girls.

Remembering Charlie Adams... wrote on September 23, 2017 at 3:53 pm:
Charlie Adams, former Executive Director of the NCHSAA, passed away on Sunday September 17. So why is this being posted? Charlie was the instrumental person who was able to get lacrosse recognized by the NCHSAA even though the number of participating schools did not yet meet the NCHSAA criteria for sanctioning a sport. Although there was resistance from some, Charlie was able to get the NCHSAA Board of Directors to sanction lacrosse. Charlie had the foresight to recognize that the sport was growing and that it was better for the NCHSAA to start handling it sooner rather than later. The number of schools playing lacrosse has grown from the high 50s before the NCHSAA sanctioned it to over 100 schools now with more to come.
Thanks Charlie for your foresight, the lacrosse community in NC greatly appreciates it.

re: goalie performance wrote on September 15, 2017 at 4:31 pm:
Save percentage is probably the better of the two, but they both tell meaningful info on each goalie and their team.

Example: a goalie with a spectacular defense may have a lower number of saves and higher save percentage due to the defense limiting the number of quality shots on him or her. However, a very good goalie can have a high save percentage regardless of defensive skill in front of him or her. On the flip side, goalies with huge numbers of saves may not have the best defense in front of them (lots of shots allowed). That can also be paired with a lower save percentage in some cases if better quality shots are allowed (not all high-save performances are the same. Was it a zone defense allowing popcorn long range shots? Or was it just a porous defensive line getting beat on every dodge?).

It's hard to get a perfect read on a goalie with just those two stats. Other stats to consider are Goals Against Average (some great communicating goalies can have lower GAAs simply by their leading of the defense, knowing when to call slides, etc), Clearing Percentage (teams with poor clearing percentages allow more offensive opportunities, more offensive opportunities lead to more goals, so a good clearing goalie can help in that department), Defensive Efficiency (if you're able to track this, total goals / total defensive sets gives your pure, raw efficiency; a higher defensive efficiency is a good overall measure of your defense as a unit. Consider a team that allows 5 goals on 10 defensive sets, or allows 6 goals on 18 sets. You'd not think the 5 was better than 6 simply looking at a box score without realizing the second scenario had a 67% efficiency rate at 12 stops in 18 chances vs. 50% at 5 stops in 10 chances), and Rebounds/backups/Clean Saves allowed/made (some teams track this but seldom do; tracking number of clean saves a goalie makes vs. loose ball-causing saves, i.e. kicking it, dome shot, body save, etc where the ball is now loose, while also tracking the number of shots backed up by the defense).

If you've only got a box score to go by, use Save Percentage, Saves, Goals Against Average, and Clearing Percentage. That'd give you a better idea without diving into crazy stat tracking.

What do you think is a better assessment of a goalie's performance; saves or save percentage? Further is there a better way to assess goalie performance than those two data points?
